The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of over 1.7 million Midea-manufactured U and U+ air conditioners sold under various brand names—including Danby—due to mold exposure hazards. Water may pool inside the unit and fail to drain properly, leading to mold growth that is then dispersed into the home environment. Mold exposure can trigger respiratory problems, allergic reactions, and chronic illnesses.
Major retailers and online platforms sold the recalled units such as Home Depot, Amazon, Walmart, Costco, and more from March 2020 through May 2025. The recall includes both U.S. and Canadian models.
