Dangerous Bed Rail Recall: WeHwupe Portable Bed Rails Pose Risk of Death from Entrapment and Asphyxiation

Jason Turchin, Esq.

If you or someone you love has purchased or used WeHwupe portable bed rails, take immediate action. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a serious recall of nearly 95,000 adult portable bed rails due to life-threatening hazards. The products fail to meet federal safety standards and pose risks of entrapment and asphyxiation — hazards that can lead to serious injury or death.

About the Recalled Products

Recalled Product Name: WeHwupe Adult Portable Bed Rails

Models Affected: BRX-8002 and BRX-8003

Recall Date: May 29, 2025

Units Affected: Approximately 94,800

Retailers: Amazon.com and Walmart.com

Price Range: $33 – $43

Manufactured In: China

Distributor: Nan Jing Chun Qu Fu Shi You Xian Gong Si (WeHwupe Store)

The WeHwupe bed rails were marketed as portable safety tools to help adults maintain independence in bed. However, the reality is far more dangerous. When installed, the rails can create a space between the mattress and the rail where users can become trapped, with the potential for suffocation. Even worse, these products lack the required federal safety warning labels.

Key Features of the Recalled Bed Rails

  • Model BRX-8002:
    • White metal tubing with a rounded gray foam rubber grip
    • Fabric pouch on the side
    • 22 inches wide; height adjusts between 18.8 and 21.5 inches
    • No support legs
  • Model BRX-8003:
    • Similar structure and features, but includes two support legs
    • 23.6 inches wide; height adjusts between 20.2 and 22.6 inches

Note: These models do not include identifying labels, but the model number may be found on the assembly instructions, if retained.

Reported Incident

There has been at least one report of the BRX-8002 bed rail breaking during use, which caused the user to fall and suffer an injury. While only one injury has been reported so far, the nature of the hazards — including potential entrapment and suffocation — make this a serious consumer safety issue.

What You Should Do

Stop Use Immediately

If you own one of the recalled bed rails, stop using it right away. Remove it from the bed to eliminate the risk of harm.

Request a Free Replacement

WeHwupe is offering free replacements for all affected products. Consumers should:

  1. Disassemble the bed rail. Remove all parts, including the top and bottom rails and support legs.
  2. Mark as Recalled. Write “RECALLED” clearly on the rails with permanent marker.
  3. Disable Key Components. Cut the mesh fabric pouch and any safety straps in half.
  4. Document for Refund. Write your name on a piece of paper and place it next to the disassembled product. Then take a photo.
  5. Dispose Properly. Discard the product following your local waste disposal guidelines.

If you or a loved one suffered an injury related to the use of a WeHwupe bed rail, you may have grounds for a product liability claim. Injuries involving adult bed rails can be severe, including:

  • Broken bones or falls
  • Suffocation or near-asphyxiation
  • Entrapment injuries
  • Fatal accidents in vulnerable adults

Manufacturers and distributors have a legal duty to ensure their products meet all federal safety standards. When they fail, and someone gets hurt, victims have the right to seek justice and compensation.
