HydroTech Expandable Hoses Recalled Over Bursting Hazard and Hearing Injuries: What You Need to Know

Jason Turchin, Esq.

If you or a loved one suffered an injury after a HydroTech expandable hose burst, call the Law Offices of Jason Turchin at (800) 337-7755 or visit for a free consultation. You may be entitled to compensation.

Overview of the HydroTech Expandable Hose Recall

On July 24, 2025, Winston Products announced a major recall of approximately 3.6 million HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses. The hoses, which were marketed as “burst-proof,” have been linked to serious safety issues including impact injuries and temporary hearing loss.

Despite their advertised durability, these hoses have reportedly failed under normal usage, sometimes bursting with enough force to cause physical harm. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled hoses immediately and to follow the refund procedures outlined by the manufacturer.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall covers HydroTech expandable hoses manufactured on or before August 31, 2024. The hoses come in several lengths—25, 50, 60, 75, 100, and 200 feet—and were sold in various colors:

  • 25-foot (Blue)
  • 50-foot (Green)
  • 60-foot (Auto Care Kit) (Gray)
  • 75-foot (Orange)
  • 100-foot (Yellow)
  • 200-foot (Red)

These hoses were sold nationwide through major retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, Target, Ace Hardware, and Do It Best from January 2021 through April 2025. Prices ranged from $20 to $136.

Consumers can identify the recalled hoses by checking for date code markings on the regulator-end, found underneath the black rubber washer. Date codes ending in:
 -211, -212, -213, -214, -221, -222, -223, -224, -231, -232, -233, -234, -241, -242, or -243
or with manufacture date 0824 (August 2024) are included in the recall.

Reported Injuries and Hazards

Winston Products has received at least 222 reports of the hoses bursting. At least 29 injuries have been confirmed, including:

  • Temporarily impaired hearing from loud bursting noises
  • Bone bruises
  • Sprained limbs due to sudden recoil or impact

The forceful failure of the hoses poses a unique threat—not only from water pressure and physical recoil, but also from the startling sound, which in several cases reportedly led to hearing-related injuries.

Consumer Remedy

Affected customers should immediately stop using the hose. Here’s how to get a refund:

If purchased at:

  • Home Depot, Walmart, Ace Hardware, or Do It Best:
Bring the hose back to the store for a full refund.

If purchased elsewhere:

  • Cut off the regulator-end of the hose.
  • Write your initials and the date on the regulator with permanent marker.
  • Take a photo showing the date code and submit it via Winston Product’s online recall form.

Understanding Product Liability: What Are Your Rights?

When a consumer product like an expandable hose fails and causes injury, you may have grounds for a product liability claim. Product liability law allows injured consumers to seek compensation when a product is:

  • Defectively designed
  • Manufactured improperly
  • Lacking adequate warnings or instructions

In this case, consumers relied on HydroTech’s marketing claims that the hose was “burst-proof.” If the product failed to perform safely under normal use, the manufacturer may be held liable for injuries caused by the defect.

What Compensation Might Be Available?

If you were injured by a bursting HydroTech hose, you could be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical expenses (hospital visits, hearing tests, therapy)
  • Lost wages if you missed work due to injury
  • Pain and suffering for physical discomfort or emotional distress
  • Hearing-related impairments, temporary or permanent
  • Out-of-pocket expenses related to replacing the hose or fixing property damage

Even if your injury seemed minor at first, it can be important to document your symptoms and speak with a lawyer as soon as possible to preserve your legal rights.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What should I do if my HydroTech hose bursts but I’m not injured?
Even if you’re not injured, you should stop using the hose and request a refund through the appropriate recall process. Bursting hoses can still cause property damage or pose risks to others.

Can I still file a claim if I bought the hose online?
Yes. If you were injured by the product, where you purchased it typically doesn’t affect your right to file a product liability claim. Keep all receipts, photos, and communication records.

How do I know if my hose is part of the recall?
Check the date code marking under the black rubber washer on the regulator-end. If the code ends in one of the listed sequences or shows a manufacture date of August 2024, it is included.

Do I need to keep the hose to file a legal claim?
It’s a good idea to take detailed photos of the product and its packaging before disposing of it. If possible, keep the defective product as evidence.

Can I sue for hearing loss caused by the bursting hose?
Yes, if the hose caused sudden, loud noise resulting in hearing loss, this may be compensable under a product liability claim. A medical evaluation can help support your case.

Final Thoughts

Millions of consumers trusted HydroTech’s “burst-proof” hose technology to be safe and reliable. Unfortunately, many of those products failed to live up to that promise, causing real injuries in the process. If you or someone you know has been affected, don’t delay in taking action. Legal claims may be subject to strict deadlines.
