Oster Oven Recall Burn Lawsuit

September 25, 2025 — Sunbeam Products has issued a massive recall of 1,290,000 Oster French Door Countertop Ovens in the United States, plus more than 104,000 in Canada, after dozens of consumers reported being burned when the oven doors unexpectedly closed.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the ovens’ glass double doors can suddenly spring shut while consumers are reaching into the hot oven, creating a serious burn hazard.

Which Oster Ovens Are Included in the Recall?

The recall involves four popular Oster French Door Countertop Oven models:

  • TSSTTVFDXL
  • TSSTTVFDDG
  • TSSTTVFDMAF
  • TSSTTVFDDAF

How to Identify Them:

  • The recalled ovens have a spring-loaded bilateral glass door with metal handles.
  • “Oster” is engraved on the bottom-right front of the unit.
  • A label with the model number can be found on the back of the oven.
  • The models were sold with different features, such as air fryer functions and either analog dials or digital push-button controls.

How Many Units Were Affected?

  • 1,290,000 units in the United States.
  • 104,195 units in Canada.

Where Were They Sold?

The ovens were sold nationwide between August 2015 and July 2025 at major retailers, including:

  • Walmart
  • Costco
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • Amazon.com
  • Overstock.com
  • And other nationwide home goods retailers

They retailed for between $140 and $250.

What Injuries Have Been Reported?

Sunbeam has received at least:

  • 95 reports of doors unexpectedly closing.
  • Multiple burn injuries, including two reports of second-degree burns.

Given that these ovens have been sold for 10 years, the true number of unreported injuries could be much higher.

Remedy for Consumers

Consumers should:

  1. Stop using the recalled oven immediately.
  2. Contact Sunbeam Products to order a free repair kit, which includes:
    • A clip-on device that increases holding force to keep doors open.
    • Installation instructions.
    • A QR code linking to a repair video.
  3. No tools are required to install the kit.
  4. Contact a product liability attorney in FL to file a burn injury claim or burn lawsuit.

Why This Recall Matters

This is one of the largest kitchen appliance recalls in recent years. The Oster countertop ovens are widely used in homes across the U.S. — and their long sales window (2015–2025) means thousands of families may still be using them.

Burn hazards are especially dangerous in countertop ovens, since users are typically leaning close and reaching inside with bare arms and hands. Unexpected door closures could easily cause second- or third-degree burns, permanent scarring, or even trigger kitchen fires.

What to Do If You Were Injured

If you or a loved one were burned by an Oster French Door Countertop Oven:

  • Seek medical attention immediately.
  • Document your injuries with photos and save any medical records.
  • Preserve the oven if possible — it may serve as evidence.
  • Report the injury to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.
  • Contact a product liability lawyer to discuss your rights.

You may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Medical bills
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering
  • Permanent scarring or disfigurement

Sunbeam Products (a subsidiary of Newell Brands) could face product liability lawsuits if injuries are linked to these ovens. Plaintiffs may argue that:

  • The ovens were defectively designed because the doors failed to stay open.
  • Sunbeam failed to adequately test the ovens for long-term safety.
  • The company waited too long to act, given that incidents were reported before the 2025 recall.

Given the size of this recall and the number of reported injuries, this could become a nationwide mass tort investigation.
