The recalled pressure washers contain a capacitor that can overheat and burst. When this component fails,
parts may be violently ejected from the housing—creating a projectile hazard to the user or bystanders.
Potential injuries include: lacerations, finger and hand fractures, eye injuries, facial trauma, and impact-related bruising or burns.
Some injuries may require emergency care, surgery, and rehabilitation. If you were injured, document your medical treatment and keep all records.
Ryobi/TTI is offering consumers a free repair kit (replacement capacitor) with shipping and instructions. However, a recall repair does not address injuries that already occurred.
If you suffered harm, you may consider a product liability claim to pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, scarring, and other damages. A repair kit will not compensate you for these losses.
Under product liability law, victims may pursue claims against one or more parties involved in the product’s design, manufacture, or sale. Potential defendants can include:
Claims may involve allegations of design defect, manufacturing defect, and/or failure to warn.

Look for the model number (RY142300 or RY142711VNM) and the serial number on the data plate on the motor housing.
If you were injured, preserve the product and speak with a lawyer first. Installing parts or returning the unit may affect evidence. A repair kit does not compensate you for injuries already sustained.
Yes, proof of purchase is helpful but not always required for a legal claim. Other records, serial numbers, photos, and witness statements can help establish ownership and use.
Responsibility can include the manufacturer (TTI/TTIOPE), and in some cases the retailer or distributors. An attorney can evaluate which parties may be liable based on your facts.
You may still have time to bring a claim, but legal deadlines vary. Contact a lawyer promptly to review statutes of limitations in your state.
