Our law firm already represents several victims of airbag defect claims, including Jeep. Our national airbag attorneys have already resolved many airbag injury claims. We filed one of the the first Federal airbag lawsuits in Miami in October 2014 against Takata Corp, TK Holdings, and Honda on behalf of a Miami Gardens woman injured when a piece of shrapnel shot her in the forehead and caused her to sustain serious life-changing injuries. That case was one of the reasons for the national Takata airbag recall.

There have been a number of people injured by a Jeep airbag that went off without an accident. Our office filed one of the first known cases against Jeep. In one case we handled, a grandmother and her grandchild were injured when the airbag in their 2003 Jeep Liberty exploded without any accident.

Airbag Attorney Jason Turchin is a #1 Best Selling Author in Personal Injury and Car Accident Law, on the Super Lawyers Rising Star list since 2013, has been featured in the ABA Journal, is a lifetime charter member of Best Lawyers in America list, and has already been interviewed on the Takata Airbag Recall and Airbag Injuries by several media outlets, including the CBS Evening News.

When an airbag deploys without an accident, it can cause the driver to lose control and sustain series injuries or death. The airbag deploying itself can also cause burns, broken bones, and cuts. We want to figure out why these airbags are failing, and hold Chrysler responsible for any injury or death caused by the airbags.

Vehicles which may have an airbag that could explode without an accident include:

2012-2014 Dodge Ram trucks (all models): The driver’s side airbag may suddenly deploy due to a wiring harness short.

2013-2015 Dodge Ram 1500 through 3500 trucks: The side airbags may deploy when the door is slammed shut.

2008, 2009 and 2010 Dodge Challenger models: The airbags may be defective Takata airbags.

2002 to 2003 Jeep Liberty, 2002-04 Jeep Grand Cherokees and 2003-04 Dodge Vipers: There may be a faulty TRW airbag control module that may cause the air bags to deploy without warning while driving (recall issued 1-31-2015 for 753,000 vehicles). This latest recall requires replacing the airbag control module.

2002 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Airbags may deploy without warning while driving due to a system fault. Recall campaign M35. Involves wiring repairs.

2003 to 2004 Dodge Viper: Airbags may deploy without warning while driving.

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Grand Voyager and Chrysler Town & Country minivans: Airbags may deploy without warning while driving. A leak in the HVAC system or condenser drain can short out the nearby airbag control module, causing the airbags to deploy.

Recall Campaign R06/NHTSA 15V-046

Chrysler has been sending Recall notices to certain vehicle owners. One recall notice, R06/NHTSA 15V-046, described the problem as follows:

The airbag system Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module on your vehicle may experience a front airbag and/or seatbelt pretensioner inadvertent deployment. An inadvertent deployment while driving could distract the driver and cause a crash without warning.

This warning is directed to owners of 2002 and 2003 model year Jeep Liberty models; 2002 through 2004 model year Jeep Grand Cherokee models; and 2003 and 2004 model year Dodge Viper models.

Safety Recall M35/Nhtsa 12V-527 Occupant Restraint Control Module Filter Circuit

Chrysler has also been sending Recall notices to certain Jeep owners. One recall notice, M35/NHTSA 12V-527, described the problem as follows:

The airbag system Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module may experience a front airbag and/or seatbelt pretensioner inadvertent deployment. An inadvertent deployment while driving could distract the driver and cause a crash without warning.

This warning is directed to owners of 2002 and 2003 model year Jeep Liberty models.

Common airbag injuries may include:

Leg Injuries – When an airbag deploys, fragments of metal shoot out from the airbag and strike a driver’s leg or passenger’s leg, it can break through the skin and cause fractures, lacerations requiring stitches and could leave permanent scars. It can also cause burns on the legs.

Chest Injuries – Inadvertent airbag explosions can cause the airbag to strike the chest area, causing fractured ribs, lacerations, and even death.

Facial and Eye Injuries – When the airbag deploys at a high rate of speed, it can strike a driver or passenger’s face. The airbag can break someone’s nose, cause blindness or eye socket injuries/orbital fractures, loss of smell, disfiguring scars, and more.

Wrongful Death and Fatal Injuries – When an airbag deploys without warning, it could cause the driver to lose control and cause a catastrophic accident, leading to the death of the owner or passenger. The airbag itself could strike the driver or passenger in such a way that it causes death. A spouse, children, or other survivor may have an airbag wrongful death case.

Neck and Back Injuries – When an airbag deploys and strikes a driver or passenger, it can cause the driver or passenger to sustain neck and back injuries, including whiplash, disc bulge, disc herniation, disc protrusion and sprain and strains. These can require physical therapy, injections and surgery, including a spinal fusion.

Burn Injuries – When an airbag explodes, the driver or passenger may suffer serious burns. These burns can be permanent, requiring skin grafting. They can also be disfiguring.
